Our Technique

The most critical factor in a good hair transplant is the technique. Hair transplantation is often limited by a finite supply of the patient's donor hair. Minimizing the number of hair follicles that are transected during the harvesting process is the most critical step in ensuring good transplant results. The more hair follicles have been transected, the less hairs can grow.

Blind Techinque
The common methods of donor strip harvesting are single-bladed and multi-bladed knife excisions. Regardless of these techniques, both of them are "blind techniques" and result in varying degrees of transection of hair follicles that invisibly lie beneath the scalp.
Both techniques are performed by inserting and aligning the knife exactly parallel with the visible external portion of hair and continuously changing the angle of the knife, keeping the knife parallel to the visible hair, as the strip is progressively cut, to avoid transection of invisible hair follicles. This attempt is essentially a guess of the direction and angle of the invisible hair follicles. Unfortunately the direction and angle of visible hair shafts and invisible hair follicles are not exactly parallel, especially in curly hair. Even though great care is taken, many of the hair follicles are still transected during the harvesting process

Our technique is an "open technique" using a single-bladed knife along with a pair of skin hooks inserted into the small stab wound and pulled in the opposite directions while cutting perpendicular to the line of tension between the hair follicles. This enables individual hair follicles to

Open Technique
be directly visualized and protected from transection during the harvesting process. This technique is extremely efficient since it allows the surgeon to visualizethe hair follicles before cutting, without needing to constantly guess the correct angle, while it requires more time and more experience, it provides an invaluable benefit to you. Higher and healthier grafts are obtained as a result.

Additionally, we use microscopes for the preparation of all hair grafts. Microscopes provide the proper magnification to see the follicles clearly. It allows our technicians to dissect each follicular unit of hair precisely without damage. We also use "Fascial and Trichophytic Closure Techniques" to minimize donor area scarring.
